To this day there is a bit of nostalgia when I bite into a rice crispy treat. It takes me back to the days where I could polish off an entire tray without a care in the world. The days when empty calories meant nothing to me. Well, that was a long time ago, now I say "not worth the calories!" Ha!
Aside from the low nutritional value, I don't have any problem with Rice Crispies when they are by themselves. The main problem that I have with them is that they get into all the other cereal. Granola specifically. Have you noticed? Without being to dramatic, there is a pandemic (too soon?) that is infecting our granolas. Little rice puffs are getting into all of our cereals! It's common trick for cereal manufacturers to use rice puffs to increase volume and profit. It's a big con job, similar to how chip companies fill chip bags with air, only to find five chips at the bottom. This drives me nuts.
Sorry I went on a little bit of a rant there. Can you tell Im passionate about granola? Actually, I just don't like getting ripped off. That and I want to fill this blog post with more words because this recipe is so short and sweet!
Ok, back to the recipe at hand. Basically what you'll want to do is replace Rice Crispies with your favorite Grizzlies Brand granola. Aaaaannnndd, that's it! I highly recommend using The Bees Knees Organic Granola. It has trace amounts of nuts and seeds to give the treat some heartiness.
Enjoy!
What you'll need
5 Cups granola: Bees Knees or Stoopid Simple
10 Oz bag of marshmallows
2 T Butter
2 T Coconut oil
Step 1
Place marshmallows, butter, and coconut oil in microwave safe bowl.
Step 2
Microwave marshmallows mixture in increments of 30 seconds stirring in between until all is melted and combined.
Step 3
Pour in granola and stir until well incorporated
Place in a 8 x 5 or 9 x 6 baking dish. Press down until compact and let them cool. Cut into squares.
Serving
The nice thing substituting Rice Crispies with granola is that it's way harder to eat a whole tray. Me thinks you'll be satisfied with just one, two tops, but no judgement here.
